The Equipment


Weighing station
Materials are weighed out
in precise amounts, and put
into crucibles.

Tubing Station
The crucibles are put into
quartz tubes, and sealed under
an argon atmosphere.

Furnace
The sealed tubes are put
in the furnace, which is
programmed with the
appropriate temperature profile.
The furnace can go up to 1200 C.


Arc Furnace
Mainly used to synthesize
polycrystaline materials.


Glove Box
Used in preparation and
storage of air-sensitive
materials.


Quantum Design PPMS 9T
The physical property measurement
system. It capable of a maximum
of 9 tesla. Includes options
for Resistivity, Heat Capacity,
AC Transport, AC Susceptibility,
Thermal Transport, pressure
measurements (3 GPa) and Helium-3.


Quantum Design PPMS 14T
The physical property measurement
system. It goes up to a maximum
of 14 tesla. Includes options for
Resistivity, Heat Capacity,
AC Transport, AC Susceptibility,
Dilution Refrigeration (DR), and
Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM).


Quantum Design MPMS 7T
The magnetic property measurement system.
It goes up to a maximum of 7 tesla.
Includes options for AC measurement,
oven, and Reciprocating Sample Option
(for better signal to noise ratio).


D8 Advance X-Ray Diffractometer
The X-Ray Diffractometer is used to
measure the bragg scattering, of single
crystals, as well as powder. This data,
is then used to determine the structure
of the crystal.
